{THIRSTY THURSDAY} boylan soda packaging

Thursday, May 13

welcome to the first official "THIRSTY THURSDAY"
defined as a day to share something that makes my mouth water or quenches my thirst.
(literally or figuratively)

it could be something to eat...
something to decorate with...
an idea i'm dying to try...
a "must have" item i've come across...
something i'm completely jealous over...
pretty much anything that invokes a sensation of desire...
or something that causes the inspiration thermometer to rise significantly.
ANYTHING that gets the creative taste buds salivating...

would you LOOK at this packaging?
love the colors.
love the vintage feel of it -
the fonts, the simplicity...
everything about it made me HAVE to buy it.
and i'm NOT a soda person. (i'm pretty boring actually...water is my choice of beverage).
BUT...
how could i resist?
the packaging quenched my creative thirst when i saw it in the store.
it was JUST the inspiration i needed to give life to THIS:

by drawing off of the colors in the boylan soda...
the vintage blue, orange with black accents
and then by adding a touch of brown...
this adorable little birthday invite was born.
i LOVE it.

and guess what?
now the soda is a MUST HAVE at the party...
who DOESN'T want adorable matching beverages to offer their guests...???

feelin' thirsty?

Keeping It Real
I've had this "thirsty thursday" concept in my mind for some time but with no real time to "execute" it.
I'm SO glad to get it started.
I have a feeling I'm going to LOVE "thirsty thursdays"...

follow your dreams...

Thursday, October 1

i loved this quote from the 5 book video the other day. did you actually go to the link i posted and watch it? if you didn't, you MUST go here. NOW). it's wonderfully inspirational and watching it every morning has become a ritual now.

once again, using my early morning time to be a little creative. kept it REALLY super simple by creating this quote & incorporated another of pantone's colors from their 2009 fall fashion palette. this one is called "honey yellow".

changed up my blog banner to reflect the first official day of october and i'll be adding a little more eye candy later today. (some of my work from the past...just for fun). thinking i'll also get the holiday decor out and get this house in the halloween holiday spirit. (we've got our door-bell ditching tradition to gear up for...shhhh).

okay all of you pumpkins...have a productive thursday - and don't forget to follow your dreams...

celebrating fall fashion...

Wednesday, September 30

good morning everyone! continuing on with my morning habit i established during the 21challenge...i decided to use my creativity time to come up with a digital image incorporating the cute little dolls i've recently designed and some of pantone's fall fashion colors. thank you pantone for keeping us in line with what's cool...dont' you just LOVE these colors. you should see the rest of the palette. isn't she adorably stylish!?

i hope you all have a fantastic wednesday. yesterday, i "celebrated" my victory relating to the 21day challenge by allowing myself to consume some caffeine in the form of chocolate chips and then later...i also gave into some carbs - chocolate chip "cookies". man...honestly, i felt "awful" the rest of the day. so...no more celebrating in that sense. back on track and feeling in control today. (it sure was strange going to rhonna's site yesterday & not finding a 21challenge inspirational quote to jump start my day. i miss you 21ers...already)!

seeking inspiration...

Friday, August 28

i think i used to feel guilty if i saw an idea someone else had and then tried to incorporate it into whatever it is i'm trying to do. everything i ever did had to be "completely" my own idea/thought...you know...."original". i'm finally realizing that inspiration is just THAT. it inspires creativity and "originality". right? inspiration is meant to be shared. it's meant to "push" you. it's meant to help you to grow. it's meant to ignite the fires within...

and my "fires within" have been lit...
you see, i've been seeking inspiration for ella's upcoming 1st b/day party and i've been taking notes in my little handy dandy notepad. (it's chock-full of ideas). here is a small peek into the ideas i've come across...the inspiration behind the upcoming event:

i'm so super excited. it's going to be "sweet". (literally) *wink*
enjoy your fabulous friday & go seek out some inspiration for whatever you've got coming up...

a magical mix

Tuesday, May 5

months and months ago, ema stumbled across an unopened 3ft. x 3ft. blank canvas i had been storing behind my bed. she was immediately "itching" to do something with it. (and frankly, so was i - my initial intentions were to create something to hang on the wall behind my bed...but months had gone by without any time/energy to break out the paints).

so, upon this magical discovery, (keep in mind, ema is my little artist and a very deep thinker), she approached me with an idea. "mom, how about we create a 'family painting' to do at one of our family nights?" truthfully, at first, i wasn't too keen on the idea because i had my "own" ideas for the canvas and frankly, i wanted to paint on it all by myself. and in the back of my mind, i'm thinking this is just a ploy for ema to be able to get her hands on that large blank canvas that's been begging for paint. but the more i thought about it over the last couple of months, (and the more time the canvas continued to sit behind my bed), the more the idea grew on me.

with some "fine tuning" we decided to embark on her idea this past sunday. there are 5 of us in our family, so each of us were to pick ONE color. (clara chose pink, ema chose green, j picked black, i went with blue - even though i wanted pink...clara stole my color - *wink*), and we chose 'mango' for ella.) we sectioned off the canvas into 4 areas for those of us who would be painting and then we left the middle part alone for ella's color and for me to be able to "tie it all together". there were NO rules - except to stay in "your" section and use ONLY the 5 colors each of us picked out. (surprisingly, i did not get specific with anyone - even though i would've normally tried to "gently encourage" a certain look/color/style/pattern, etc. to go with the decor of our home.) for this project, i really wanted this to end up being a unique work of art....displaying each of our own creative talents/abilities/thoughts/emotion... AND...this was to also be symbolic of our "blended family". (ema had even previously mentioned she wanted it to represent all of us "working together"). such a deep little thinker...
and so...without further ado...here's what we came up with:

ella's section (& also the "intersection" of everyone's art)
"it takes blending a palette of vivid colors to create a work of art"
(us...being the vivid colors and our life together being the work of art)

ema's section

clara's section

j's section
(j's nickname is now "jason-angelo")

jessica's section

the complete work of art

i'm so happy with how it turned out...seriously. it's a "one-of-a-kind" and such a poetic symbol to hang in our home....  it exemplifies everything about our little blended family so perfectly....it's kind of quirky, it's vibrant, it's filled with bits of imperfection, it's a little off-balance, it's creative,  it's got all kinds of very different elements but at the end of the day...it's quite a magical mix.

and keeping it real:   clara and em used a yellow color before realizing it wasn't one of the colors we'd originally picked as our "5 color palette".  aaannnddd...i didn't get hardly any blue paint on the canvas before finally deciding to hold ella so everyone else could get theirs done. i had to finish mine yesterday....and clara finished hers up yesterday as well. (& you know i got slack from j who is convinced i purposely put off doing my section in order to size-up everyone else's art...and then try to out do them all). *laughing* and definitely NOT true - kind of.

"orange" you lovin' these colors...

Thursday, April 2

look at the mix of orange & pinks going on here...i'm lovin' it! ella looks so spectacular in her new digs from uncle mike. these are some shots i "grabbed" from video - taken on tuesday while out with my mom:

i have to apologize for the "listless" state my blog seems to be in right now. can't add anything fun yet because i'm still learning my way around the mac - loving it of course but it's definitely a learning curve right now. don't have my ps loaded and although i'm maneuvering around photos and videos now, i don't have my programs for applying my frames, etc. yet. i like to keep things interesting and fun and my posts have been way too frumpy lately. i...especially have a complex about it because things always have to be visually appealing to me and this just is NOT cuttin' it lately.

in response to the complaints i'm getting about the fact that there are no pics of me. well people...i'm always "behind" the camera. i did have to take some time today to scrounge up a photo of myself for the photographer's workshop. i actually had to reference a video my little cousin kalie took of me while we were at ema's swim lessons. kalie just picked up "the flip" - out of curiosity - and just started filming. so i went through the video and "grabbed" a photo. (not great - but it's current). *big smile* - thanks kalie.

next, we have ms. ella scarlet - enjoying her new "exersaucer" the other day...her little legs barely reach the bottom - & believe it or not, she's already managed to twist the seat around to look at the full spectrum of eye candy going on. (could she just stop being in such a rush to be such a big girl??!!)

what else? i'm learning soooo much from the photographer's workshop i started on monday. (not even about photography...yet...just info. about things such as the best place to purchase lenses and photo "blog books". yes people, you can actually have a book printed related to all of your blog posts. how amazing is that? i figure it's something i could do once a year - i'm really excited about that. a blog is not only an online "journal" but it's also a scrapbook too. as you might imagine, my head is spinning with the ideas of the endless possibilities this opportunity presents. (slow down...girl...sloooowwww down).

off to get down and dirty with real life - dinner plans, cleaning, brushing my teeth, etc. but i WILL make today exceptional somehow - how about you?
