FREE | Cute Halloween Food Idea for Kids

Thursday, October 9

I don't know about you all but I like to do a fun dinner for my girls either on Halloween night OR on the one night during October that we do the Phantom Pumpkin. My festive Halloween dinners are never elaborate and they usually involve quick foods since we are trying to head out the door.

I came up with a super cute AND SUPER EASY "Frankenstein" themed dinner I'll be doing this year. Hotdogs and french fries never looked so cute…am I right?  Especially served up on these mini sheet pans. (see bottom of post for details about ordering these).

I lined my tray with a piece of custom printed "Boo" tissue paper, printed my black and white striped french fry holder and filled it with Ore Ida's Extra Crispy Fast Food fries aka "French Fried Franken Fingers", stuck a boiled hotdog in a bun and added a "Franken-furter" food pick, and I included a small cup of "spider web ketchup/mustard" for dipping...and dinner is done! Yay!!

I've created a FREE printable for you to easily recreate this for your littles too.
And hey…even my teen girls appreciate this!

HOW TO PRINT CUSTOM TISSUE PAPER
To print the tissue, I cut a piece of white tissue paper down to 8.5 x 11 and gently taped it to a piece of white card stock. (I used a piece of washi tape this time but transparent tape works too -  just a small piece of tape at the top and one on the side - you want it to hold the tissue in place as it's fed into your printer so it won't get jammed - but you want to be able to remove the tape easily when you are finished printing).

I cut the sheet of 8.5 x 11 tissue in half after printing so I would have two separate pieces to complete two trays.

Now we all know a meal just isn't complete without something sweet to finish it off…right? (or maybe that's just me but I have a sneaking suspicion I'm not the only one out there).

In any case... how cute is this mini monster shake…or in keeping with our Frankenstein themed Halloween dinner…a "Frozen Franken Freeze"!

It's super easy to make and I'll be sharing more information all about that cute little detail VERY soon!

I hope you're inspired!!
Do it for the kids!!! They'll LOVE it!! Pinky promise!!

Stay tuned…

This post is part of of a round up of FREE Halloween printables I'm doing with some fabulous blogging friends - this is NOT the same group I've been doing the monthly free printables.

We each took an element of a Halloween party and created a free printable using a black and orange color scheme. (I stuck with black and white and added a piece of orange washi tape - that counts, right?) Anyway, I'll be sharing the round up of all of our ideas next week…STAY TUNED for cuteness overload!!

It's been an incredibly busy + unproductive week for me.
It's amazing, (+ disheartening), how sick kiddos can really throw a wrench into your plans and programs. This post was supposed to be finished and ready to go up with the rest of my blogging friends on Tuesday. *blushing*
I haven't even posted to Instagram once this week…which is highly unusual for me…seeing as how I usually share an inspirational quote everyday. I typically don't wish the days away…and I'm still not going to…but I'll be grateful when the disappointment from this week is behind me and I'm able to full-focus on the deadlines facing me over the next few days. Sure hope you all had a great week though!!

SHARE | Something Wicked This Way Comes

Friday, September 12

It just feels SO wrong to be posting something about Halloween when Summer isn't officially over until September 21st. It seems wrong to me anyway…

HOWEVER…Halloween is coming…and it's coming fast.
The industry I'm in...you really have to be working 2 months ahead of each season in order to stay ahead of every holiday. I've been working on some Halloween stuff over the last month, (so I'm actually a little behind), but I'm already full focused on Thanksgiving and will be starting Christmas stuff soon. I don't LOVE it…but it's the nature of the industry.

Anyway…since Halloween is coming whether I want to say goodbye to Summer or not…
I'm forced to share one of the printables I've been quietly working on for you…

Something Wicked This Way Comes - Halloween Art Print

I actually had a customer reach out to me about designing a "Something Wicked This Way Comes" sign for her home…but she ended up thinking this version was too "pretty"- which I completely get.
But I'm okay with "pretty" more than "spooky"…so I'm sticking with this version here at my house.

I thought you might like it too so I'm offering this FREE 5x7 Art Print to all of my sweet blog readers.  It gets better though…how about this...

CHALKBOARD "Something Wicked This Way Comes" Art Print

Use this free 5x7 printable to get a headstart on decorating and perhaps even…party prepping.

Do you all host Halloween parties? I typically don't…
unless you count the playful meal I serve my family on the night of Halloween just before heading out for trick-or-treating. Ya know…the "mummy dogs" served with individual bowls of ketchup and a mustard spider web spun in the middle of the ketchup.

I love decorating the inside of my house for Halloween but the outside is usually pretty sparse, except for this cluster of really cute signs I bought years ago that I stick at my front door.

They really need to be spruced up a bit…or maybe the fading black paint adds to the "spooky" vibe of the season? Haven't completely decided yet.

I got the Cobweb sign from an Arts and Crafts festival like ummm…10 years ago?
And the two smaller signs, "Boo" and "Mr. Skull" were from Target. I'm a sucker for creamy white and when you add black for Halloween…well…you know I'm going to cave.

I also stay away from all of the "scary" stuff. I've tried turning Halloween into more of a "light-hearted" holiday for my kids instead of focusing on all the yucky "wicked" stuff. (Remember our annual Phantom Pumpkin tradition)?  I don't allow scary costumes typically…no masks…no gory stuff. I think I'm just a wimp so I guess I'm passing all of that along to my girls. Ha!!

On a good year, you might find a giant inflatable stack of lighted jack-o-lanterns in our yard. I picked it up on clearance at a grocery store years back and if I'm feeling the urge…Mr. Jack comes out to play.
I wasn't feeling it last year…maybe this year though?

Anyway, if you like the FREE 5x7 you are more than welcome to DOWNLOAD IT RIGHT HERE.
Also available in my Etsy Shoppe are the 16x20 and 24x36 sizes of this same print.
And stay tuned for the Monthly FREE Printables Blog Hop coming next week - all about…you guessed it…Halloween!! *wink*

I do have to say I grudgingly let Clara and Ema dress up as Vampires one year and we recently stumbled upon those photos on my computer. Clara actually asked me, "Why did you let me go out looking like that!?" Ha!! I think they liked the way they looked at the time…but neither of them liked the way they looked when looking back at photos. They were pretty creepy. Ha!!

DID YOU KNOW | Once upon a time...

Monday, July 14

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved hand-lettering and doodling.
She used to win awards in elementary school for "best handwriting"
and she'll never forget that her 5th grade teacher chose HER to fill an entire chalkboard with assignments and practice sentences for the rest of the class because she was "such a good speller and had fantastic penmanship."

She has spent much of her life obsessing over the perfect pen and frequenting stationery stores to swoon over the selections of beautiful paper, pens and inks available.

She has doodled on any type of paper medium within reach during phone conversations and long waits; scrap paper, tissue paper, paper towels and even toilet tissue.

When she was a cheerleader she LOVED making the posters for game nights and her favorite part of Science Projects was creating the visual aspect of the experiment using a poster board.

She'll always remember overhearing her grandfather mention to her mother how talented and gifted she was after he saw one of the school project posters she was free-handing.

As a teen standing as a cashier in a grocery store, you could find her doodling and writing poems on the back of old receipts in between customers and when business was slow.

She even taught herself a little bit of calligraphy and a few years later, as a young adult, the president of the company she was working for at the time asked her to address, (in calligraphy), his personal Christmas Cards that season.

She has always loved lettering…even picking her children's names based on the way they looked when hand-written.

When she started her blog she picked the name based on what she loved most: Pen + Paper
and then tacked on "Flowers" to represent her 3 girls = Pen N' Paper Flowers

She has always been a deep-thinking, poem-writing, quote-hoarding, doodle-design making girl.

Her doodles are simple.
Her quotes are simple (most of the time) Ha!!
and the combination of the two leads to some simply fun design/art/stuff.

I hope you'll follow along as that girl continues to add art to her NEW Society6 Shoppe as well as to her Etsy Shoppe.

I have a notebook full of poems and another notebook filled with doodles and hand-lettering I've collected through the years.
I'm hoping to share the doodles with you soon.
As for the poems…I think I'll keep those tucked away…they're pretty embarrassing since most of them were from middle school and high school.
