The book selection for May, "The Secret Language of Flowers" by Samantha Gray published by CICO Books and illustrated by Sarah Perkins is so perfect in so many ways...

First and foremost...
it meets the requirement of the PNPF Book Club of being an easy read.
Secondly, it plays into the timely old adage, "April Showers bring May flowers".
Lastly, my infatuation with fresh flowers over the last month - Spring tulips, pretty spray rosesmy quest for growing ranunculus here in Florida and more recently, the flower garden Ella and I are quietly scheming to create together, simply meant a book focused on flowers was truly the only option. *wink*

Besides all of that, a book about flowers seems so appropriate for the month we will be celebrating Mother's Day. In fact, this book may be the perfect gift for your own mom - depending on her interests.

Anyway, what intrigues me about this book is that not only does it breakdown the historical significance and meaning of the 50 flowers mentioned in the book but it includes a fun little section  "If you love [insert flower type] then you probably..."  at the bottom of each page. I'm curious to see which flower best represents my personality, compared to the flowers I actually adore.

As mentioned in the book:
"Samantha Gray reveals how flowers came by their meanings in folklore and how flowers became the language of courtship, love, friendship, beauty and more. Discover the meanings of over 50 flowers: how lily of the valley symbolizes the return of happiness, how bluebells stand for constancy and everlasting love and how daffodils represent high regard and chivalry. With stunning illustrations by artist Sarah Perkins that capture all of the beauty of flowers, this is an exceptionally lovely and fascinating gift book."

Since there are 50 different flowers mentioned you could easily pick one flower a day to read about during your busy week and bump it up to three or four each day on the weekends. Or just skip reading altogether during the week and save your reading time for just the weekend. Or maybe you don't even read the entire thing but simply pick the flowers you are most interested in reading about and leave the rest to when you have more time for leisurely reading?

That's the beauty of the PNPF Book Club. There are no deadlines. No real rules.
Participate and read along when you are inspired to do so...because ultimately...the goal is to leave you feeling inspired!

Obsessed with this bucket of Spray Roses I posted on Instagram today!!

Wishing the grocery store had had more than one bundle yesterday because I could put these in every corner, on every window sill and on every table top around the house. These are for sure going to be part of the flower garden Ella and I are beginning to plan.
