life is like party planning....

Monday, June 7

"sorting"...
it's an important process of party planning...
i don't necessarily mean sorting through gumballs...
i'm referring to sorting through all of the ideas i have in my head...
versus the time i have to bring the ideas to life.
not to mention budget constraints...*wink*
sorting through what's GOT to happen...
what NEEDS to happen...
and ultimately...
what i'd LIKE to have happen.
and there IS a difference between all three. (even though i have to remind myself of that).

and really...
isn't life the same way?
it's all about "sorting".
most people refer to it as "prioritizing".
the "got to's"...
the "need to's"...
and the "like to's"...
well...they may be a bit different?!
BUT...
the ultimate goal in life
as well as party planning...
well...
it's all the same:
remind yourself of the purpose...
figure out what's most important...
make a plan on how to make it happen...
stick to the plan...
let go of the nuances along the way...
remember it's the "little things" that make a difference...
make it memorable...
make it special...
don't waste your time on the things that don't matter...
make smart choices along the way...
eliminate stress as often as you can...
surround yourself with people that lift & inspire you...
know that it doesn't ALWAYS have to be practical...(but probably should be) *wink*
keep it simple...
be open to the idea of change...
don't be so serious...
accept the imperfections...(they are inevitable)
smile and laugh A LOT - especially at yourself...
get creative...
inspire and BE inspired...
take LOTS of pictures...
never stop dreaming...
remember...spontaneity oftentimes leads to amazing results...
expect the unexpected...
and most importantly...
ENJOY THE PROCESS!
when it's all said and done...
we'll be sitting back looking over our efforts...
admiring the beautiful things we created...
& ultimately thinking of things we should've/could've done differently....
i hope all of us keep our list of "should haves/could haves" really...really short!

feeling SO inspired this monday morning...
i hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
i look forward to a magical week ahead...

KEEPING IT REAL
I've got to hurry and get out the door to get my 3 miles in for the 343 challenge.
The week is going to be crazy-busy - it's the last week of school.
Having to change the date of the lemonade & sunshine party...I will update soon.
Have a "bun-load" of digital design orders to wrap up!
And I wouldn't want things any. other. way! *wink*

I think this is so true. Having just planned a party too and spending many many nights dreaming and "sorting", I can agree with everything you have said !! Found your gorgeous blog through TomKat Studio - nice to meet you x Kate.

Kate got SO excited by the top picture today! She said "That looks VERY GOOD!!!" As in, YUMMY. Yes, she likes sweets, like her mother. Hope you have a great week!

Great post! It's definitely important to keep things in persepective and not get carried away and beat yourself up when something doesn't go as planned...like I often tend to do!

What a great post. I needed to hear all of these things as I leave from upstate NY to go to RI for a week and host my daughter's birthday party there. Needless to say the car is jammed packed and I am getting stressed. Thanks for putting it all into perspective. OH! I was in Marshalls the other day and they had pink and yellow gumballs in lemonade flavor and I thought of your party! How funny that you sorted the gumballs. I love it! Thanks again for your wise and helpful words. Have a great day!

I LOVE THIS POST! Just wrapped up my son's 1st birthday parties (yes, crazy enough to host an intimate family party on the day of his bday followed by a big party 3 days later) and I found myself happily nodding along as I read your list!

Love your Lemonade & Sunshine party - gorgeous!!!
